Broadband Support

Supporting Broadband Expansion. Strengthening the 811 Process.

Virginia is experiencing historic levels of excavation driven by broadband expansion, infrastructure upgrades, and federal investment programs. Increased locate request volume — particularly in rural areas — is creating added pressure across the Commonwealth, impacting 811, contractors, utilities, and other stakeholders involved in excavation projects.

To support this growth, Virginia 811 established two Broadband Support Specialist positions through BEAD funding. These specialists serve as direct resources for stakeholders involved in broadband and fiber expansion projects, providing guidance, coordination, and support throughout the project lifecycle and beyond.

With Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI) and Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD )projects underway, every award recipient should schedule a post-award Virginia 811 onboarding session for Damage Prevention & State Law training.
